is a plethora of pitfalls for those of us who have QADD.
(Quilter's Attention Deficit Disorder)
These caught my eye a few weeks ago while browsing.
Sigh.
I have a lot of embroidered doilies. Some inherited, some gifted and recently, I've begun buying them at thrift and antique stores.
Rescuing ones that have stains and tears and would otherwise languish in the land of crumpled linen limbo.
Case in point.
This lovely had both.
Thanks to "Hen", I had a way to save and repurpose a piece of history and bring it into the modern world of quilting.
Ahhhhhh!
This basket was the center of the stained and torn linen doily. Showcased by some of my favorite scraps from today's designers. I'll add more ala Wonky Log Cabin style to create something that will be used and loved today and tomorrow.
Sew very happy!

ReplyDelete(I might have QADD as well!)
Those embroidered doilies are going to make a beautiful quilt. What a lovely idea to use them this way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, I shall have to have another look at the embroidered linen I have "rescued" :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I too have embroidered pieces that need rescued. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI love the basket! That worked out perfectly!

I have that exact "pin" on one of my boards too. I think I have QADD as well. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my...you have surely inspired me this morning. I have embroidered doilies from my great grandmother in the linen closet. I cherish them but I'm not sure what will happen to them in the future. Thanks to you I am going to get them out (and use some of my favorite quilting fabric) and give them a new life!! I see a wall hanging in my future. Thank you so much for sharing....I love your blog. Oh I also have QADD.
ReplyDeleteOur quilt group is doing a challenge of making a quilt from recycled fabrics only. This would be a marvelous way to meet that challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a great idea. Not that I have any embroidered doilies but should I ever come across some...
ReplyDeleteAs a gal with a penchant for using embroidered 'pretties' in a new and modern way, I love your beautiful quilt that you are stitching!! 'Tis beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYour repurposing project looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally doing this! I have a huge collection, and some are sitting unused/unloved because of stains.... here's a chance for them to have a new life... and I can get going on the "shabby chic" look I want for my guest room! Thanks for the lovely inspiratation. :)
ReplyDeletePretty! I have a friend who collects these hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful for you on the blog! I like to look again :-)

Thank you so much for this absolutely brilliant suggestion of quilting. I inherited many, many embroidered mats and table cloths from the 1920's. I now know what to do this winter. Please wish me luck as I am just lurning to quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you use to clean them? They look great!
